Tre Dici

Based upon the rec of some hounds, I recently tried the wood-fired pizza at Tre Dici on 26th btw 6th and 7th. Have to say, despite some initial skepticism, I was really impressed.

I ordered the pizza with mushroom, caramelized onions, and truffle. When I got home and opened the box, I was a little worried. They use fresh mozzarella, and I usually prefer a cheese blend. Also, the pie appeared to be a tad undercooked on top, with the crust and cheese a distressing shade of pale.

Any doubts, however, were erased with my first bite. The fresh mozzarella wasn't watery at all, the mushrooms were high quality, and the onions were caramelized perfectly. The flavors, moreover, melded really well, with the sweetness of the onions balancing the earthiness of the mushrooms and truffles.

The crust also turned out to be pretty decent. While the top could have used more heat, the bottom was charred perfectly, making for a pleasant balance of crisp and springy. My only complaint was the relative blandness. The best crusts, imho, have a little flavor to them.

Anyway, to summarize, I was really impressed with my pie--far moreso than the one I recently ordered from Waldy's. And while Tre Dici isn't a destination spot, it is a very solid addition to the pizza offerings in the neighborhood.

On that note, has anyone tried their other dishes?
