Traditional New England Fare

My boyfriend and I are from Southern California and will be spending a long weekend the first weekend in May driving up to Portland, Kennebunkport, Cape Anne, and down to Boston. It will be the first time for both of us in this part of the United States.

I want to sample the region's traditional favorites like Indian pudding, clam chowder, blueberry anything, strawberry-rhubarb pie, even spring fiddleheads, baked beans, New England boil, and any other specialties that are near and dear to the locals' hearts.

Ambiance is not a factor, just authenticity.

Please tell me where those restaurants are along this route, and if you have other suggestions of dishes that we should sample, please recommend them. If you have heard of places, but haven't been, if we try them, I'll be happy to report back.

Thank-you.
