The DOH website reports that they had the following problems during an inspection on 3-19-02:
1. Shellfish not from an approved source, improperly tagged/labeled; tags not retained for 90 days.
2. Vermin or other live animal present in food storage, preparation or service area.
The restaurant business is weird in this way and any given place from a dump to the fanciest of joints can have a bad inspection. This stuff is not an absolute determination about a place, just a snapshot of what some inspector thought he needed to do on a particular day.
What is disturbing, however, is the sanctimonious manner in which people deal with DiFara's. THreads deleted, people blindly proclaimeing that they will never believe anything negative about DiFara's, people refusing to disclose the nature of their problems, etc.
Get a grip on yourselves folks. This is a message board for people who want to trade information about restaurants in the area. Some tips will be about great finds. Others will be about some stinkers to avoid. Still others will be updates about places with which we all are familiar. Some threads will be about places that are having problems with the DOH - this is stuff that people want to know.
You would think that some of the people here have an interest in promoting DiFara's or that they think that they are the only people in the whole history of Brooklyn to "discover" the place.
Get back with the program. DiFara's is a good place and they have had a bit of bad luck with the DOH. Hopefully they will bounce back. If not, we will survive.
Go ahead and delete this if you want, but make sure to also spend some time reflecting on the silly way in which the powers that be here act about this one pizzeria - you are losing sight of the mission.
