Tonic in Allston

Went last nite, it's on Comm. Ave just beyond Harvard Ave. I doubt anyone goes who's not 22 and beautiful, except for me and my friend. But it's a great space with comfy seating and a gigantic bar which is where we ate. There wasn't much eating going on there at 8:30 tho. Not too big a menu, about 8 apps, a few salads, 4 sandwiches and maybe 6 entrees topping out at $21. We split a nice blue cheese/apple/walnut/greens salad for $7 which was saltier than normal but we didn't mind. Split an amazing panini with thin chicken breast, brie and caramelized onions. That came with homemade chips that had a bit of a humidity problem and some greens ($10). Their desserts concentrated on chocolate and seemed to be Italian influenced. We went with a light spongy choc. cake with layers of caramel custard on the bartender's recommendation and it hit the spot ($7). The bartender was fun but just a bit inattentive (we're not nearly young or beautiful enough). The bar crowd starting filing in at 9:30 or and they had more valets than you could shake a stick at. Not bad if you're in the neighborhood tho.
