My search for So Cal. style Mexican food continues. I recently ate at Tommy's Mexican Restaurant. It is more of a Mexican / Yucatecan cuisine. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it was actually pretty good. The first sign for me is the chips n' salsa. They brought out a red and a green salsa. The red was nice and hot but not uncomfortable. The green was a bit more mild but very tasty. You could really taste the green Chile. I was impressed with the beans and rice. More so the beans! I was really in the mood for chicken taquitos ( probably because I can't find them ANYWHERE in San Francisco!) with guacamole and sour cream. But they didn't have them. They did however have chicken chimichangas, so I opted for that. I wasn't very impressed with the chicken. Overall it was pretty satisfying.
It was also nice to be able to sit down at a booth instead of having to eat on the go or at a little table like most of the taquerias in the city. The atmosphere kind of reminded me of El Chavo ( 4441 West Sunset Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA ), minus the florescent upside down sombreros on the ceiling.
My friend ordered one of their world famous margaritas. The bartender must have been having a good day because the margarita was SO STRONG it was too much to handle!
Overall we had a good dinner, good service and will go back until we find a more comparable So Cal. mexican restaurant! Hopefully it's one located closer to my side of town.
