the tiny wonder of tia pol....

a sliver of spain has slipped right into the heart of chelsea and its minimal tables and bar pack a big punch of something wonderful. apparently started by two women from new orleans who spent time in spain - its menu offers small and large tastes from a variety of regions....sweet green peppers sauteed in sea salt, perfect to pop in your mouth while considering what's next. the octopus is so tender, the shrimp are sweet and spicy and worth sucking on for every last drop of taste, boquerones - tuna stuffed with marinated white anchovies were sensational, razor clams and cockles were great but they cut the razor clams up to sit inside tiny clam shells - cute but harder to get a good swig of clam in ones mouth. lamb skewers that i didn't taste but watched the joy from those who did, pork in many divine forms, lovely cheeses and a really nice bottle of white wine from a grape that starts with a txch.....can't remember the name. that was a bit pricey but there are other choices for less money. i wouldn't mind if they offered better reds by the glass but maybe in time....

they're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and i can imagine spending the day there having some of each. plates are about 6-14 and wines were approx 25-45. it can get a bit noisy and the bar area was quite cowded when we left but the service is so sweet, and the food is so good that i just felt lucky to be in spain for a little while anyway.
