First time at Water Grill

Clam Chowder - Light cream, singing note of clam broth, with clams in the shell. Still thinking about the lobster bisque I missed, not on the menu.

Hamachi - Buttery, silky, almost sweet, like a fish dessert.

John Dory - Loved the fish itself. Elusive flavor. With each bite, I would think: like salmon, no, like halibut, no... Tomato compote was grating, almost spoiled everything. Like seeing Jennifer Garner with Ben Affleck at Fenway.

Diver Scallops - The size of biscuits. Seared, with black currant and hazelnut. Stupendous.

Chocolate Brioche Pudding - Pudding was a cocoa thud going down. Rich vanilla ice cream rolled in pistachio on top made things better.

Creme Fraiche Cheesecake - Cloud-like filling on gingerbread crust, great combo. Came with insanely potent garnish of candied ginger.

I should also mention that our server was terrific. Friendly but not cloying. Just the right pace and volume in his delivery. A Sinatra among Tom Joneses.

Total with cocktail and tip, $175. Probably won't be rushing back. More satisfying to blow that kind of wad at Sushi Gen.
