Ok, my fault. I thought it would be a fun themed night like those that my father took me to in the 1970s. Those great late 1950s/60s Polynesian restaurants that still squeaked out an existence in Southern California.
I went on a date this weekend to the Tiki Room on Landsdown Street. I thought that a night of tropical fun strong drinks, a lot of tropical, south pacific décor and a little fried fun food would be a change of pace.
With no reviews on Chowhound, I went to the web. Nothing terrible, nothing great. Further, the Phantom Gourmet had really enjoyed the experience.
I should have stopped myself.
The drinks were weak and not that special.
The décor was stale (no where close to the Tiki Room at Disneyland, sponsored by Dole).
The fried pu pu food was really bad. I dont mind a few apps, fried apps but this stuff was really gross.
The service was apathetic and uninterested, even in their world famous drinks.
Youve been warned.
