Thoughts on SD restaurants

newport | Dec 6, 2007 08:21 AM

I just got back from five days in San Diego and wanted to share my thoughts on some restaurant experiences.

Candelas - recommended frequently on this board, I thought the food was mediocre and not distinctively Mexican. Also, the fussy, overly-formal service was a bit too much.

Taka - also recommended frequently here. I thought it was excellent and went there twice. The atmosphere at the sushi bar is great and the chefs make useful reommendations.

Blue Point Coastal - I thought it was pretty good, thought not great.

Rama (Thai) - More Chinese than Thai. Nice atmosphere but not very authentic cuisine. They have a 1 to 10 hotness scale, but even at 10 the food is not very spicey.

Never did manage to get to a taco shop, so I'll have to return at some point.
