Some thoughts on the quality of Bay Area Food

Having lived here so long and eaten almost daily at a diverse selection of SF eateries (with the gut to prove it!), I don't get that excited by the restaurants here. Yes, we have fresh ceviche at Limon, juicy tripitas tacos at taco trucks, aromatic Pho, Indian and Pakistani fare, Southern Thai, Cambodian, fresh HI Oysters (at the farm), but I stopped getting excited by the food here. The names of overrated restaurants were starting to leap to my mind faster than the ones I really enjoy.

Well! I just got back from a trip up to Oregon. After gathering some recommendations on roadside places to eat from helpful Pac NW Chowhounds, I was all set to taste the regional specialties, the roadside diners and some good comfort food. During my trip I concluded that I am extremely lucky and completely spoiled by the food of SF. Of course there is good food in every region of the country but we in the Bay Area have an extremely high concentration and diverse variety of excellent food establishments.

My trip has renewed my appreciation for how lucky we are to live here and the high standard for food in this area. Not to say that there isn't satifying fare in our neighboring states (I had an excellent meal at the Pizza Research Institute in Eugene), just a nod of appreciation to the high standard of quality that I had come to take for granted. Happy eating.
