I know this isn't about Austin, but some of you guys actually travel outside of the city to eat every now and then. We were in Sonoma awhile back and ate, at my urging (or probably begging), at Johnny Garlic's, one of Guy Fieri's restaurants. A little background: I love triple D, I watch it incessantly, so I was pumped. Unfortunately, my fondest memory of the experience was before I opened the door. The place was a dump. It was Friday's without the cleaning crew. It was Applebee's with nasty floors. The truth of the matter is that it was uninspired. We sat at a crummy table, the service was passable, the menu was genuinely pedestrian, and the food was totally unmemorable. I am only telling you this because I just finished reading a ton of negative reviews of Guy's new restaurant Guy's American Kitchen and Bar in NYC. The more I read, the more I could relate. I love Guy's show, but I won't be going back to any of his restaurants.
