I went in with low expectations, which The Warren House far exceeded: Thanksgiving dinner at The Warren House was worse than I possibly could have imagined.
We were staying at The Pitcher Inn, where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Wednesday night, and fabulous breakfasts on Thursday and Friday, but their dining room was closed on Thursday night. I could find only two places in the area, The Warren House, on the Sugarbush access road, and the 1824 House, in Waitsfield, which were open. Based on the reviews on tripadvisor.com, I chose The Warren House. But notwithstanding the very favorable reviews on tripadvisor, my expectations were low.
Well, The Warren House exceeded my expectations by serving food that was barely edible. Some may say, probably rightfully so, that you cannot really judge a restaurant by their Thanksgiving meal, but if you are a restaurant that chooses to open on that day, you have to step up or risk alienating customers. This meal was so bad, I could not imagine returning, ever.
On the plus side, the service was friendly and efficient, and they had Ben & Jerry's ice cream in house, which they couldn't screw up. Which is a good thing, since the pumpkin pie was the least edible of the food they put before us: I think they forgot the sugar and spices, and just filled a crust with pureed pumpkin.
