Started working a job near Western and Lunt this week.
Monday's lunch was a gut busting beef and ghetto fries at Max's so today we decided we needed somthing a little more on the fresh and spicy side of things and opted for Thai Homemade,a tiny newcomer on the west side of Western just south of Lunt.
Although the windows were partially papered over, the lights were on and the ceiling fans were spinning so in we went only to startle the owner,a Thai version of Tammy Fay Baker who was in the middle of her lunch...a Big Mac and fries!!.Stay tuned for Thai Homemade, they open next week.
Back in the car heading north I spot an old standby, the Candlelite Lounge. The Candlelite has a great old neon sign and was a cozy little hole in the wall kind of place that used to serve a pretty decent thin crust pizza.
Now it looks like they've saved the sign and are about to become a giant not so cozy hole in the block kinda place.Anyone know whats going on here?
Finally lunch. La Cazuela,a clean as a whistle Mexican place that specializes in seafood.I had the ceviche tostadas and my dining partner had the fish tacos and shrimp tostadas.
I've eaten ceviches from Ecuador all the way back to Chicago, and IMHO this one ranks in the top five. The tostadas come loaded with a mound of extremly fresh ceveche infused with cilantro and onions and topped with a large wedge of avocado. At $2.75 each this is truly grand theft.Further north in Evanston at the Davis ST.Fish Market I'm sure the price would be double and they would always be out of it!
