Teskes Germania in San Jose. Any 2nd opinions?

My wife and I checked out Teskes Germania downtown a few weeks ago and had a horrible experience. But we really want to like this place and are wondering if anyone can give us enough good reviews to risk trying it again. The place was busy, so people must like it, but horrible service spoiled our impression, and our meal. Maybe it was an off night, but the place isn't cheap and we don't want to risk it. Any positive reviews?

Here is our experience if you want to read what happened:

We moved from Chicago and were thrilled to find an authentic German place that reminded us of home. The place was relatively busy but there was no host. We waited with two other parties for five minutes before the bartender finally came over and took our names (the waitstaff saw us but didn't acknowleged us). It was a 30 minute wait so we had a drink. This part was terrific. The bartender was personable and the beer was high quality. But once we got seated the waiter was totally aloof. It took a long time just to get simple salads. The waiter (who seemed like he'd been there for decades) made a joke about our wait but offered no appology. After another long wait the entrees came, they were okay. But when we finished eating we had been there for 2 hours and wanted to leave. He offered to bring the dessert, which was included with the meal, but we asked for the check. Another 20 minutes went by and he ignored our table. We noticed other parties looking around confused trying to get the waiter's attention too. He was there, shuffling back and forth between the kitchen and tables, but ignored lots of requests. We finally calculated the approximate bill in our heads, sans tip, and left cash on the table.
