Decided to try some of the dinner items at the Geary branch of Turtle Tower. Started with two small bowls of chicken soup. The soup came and it was basically chicken and shiitakes suspended in a gelatinous mass of flavorless broth. The texture was beyond yuck (to me) At first I thought it was just too corn-starchy or something, but it was exceedingly stringy and slimy. I wouldn't have minded as much if it tasted good, but it didn't. Is this an acquired thing or was the soup wrong? I've never encountered a broth like this in any restaurant here or when I traveled all over Vietnam last year. We asked if it's always like that and were told yes. What is this soup? Anyone know?
Everything else we had was ranged from ok to good. Salt and pepper crab, good, greens sauteed with garlic, good, vegetarian fried rice, nothing to write home about.
Guess I'll stick to the pho next time.
