tasty brooklyn beer and chili report

Looking for a laid-back place to grab a drink and a snack on the late side last night, my friend and I ended up at the Waterfront Ale House, on Atlantic near Clinton. They've got Anchor Steam's fab 2004 holiday ale--rich and dark, almost syrupy like a porter, with hints of chocolate and clove. Really good and not too sweet or overly gingerbread-y, like some winter ales, and a nice memory of my old hometown of San Fran. Went just right with a bowl of their Texas chili, which was full of lovely spicy shredded-up, long-cooked meat, served hot in a crock with lots of gooey cheese baked on top. Red vinyl booths, sports on the tube...they had more adventurous stuff on the menu, like cajun ravioli and ostrich burgers, but I'd stick with the chili...
