For those who might get sucked in by the fact that Tartine (on Beverly Blvd at Martell) has their bread FedEx'd from Paris' Poilane bakery: don't get sucked in, it's terrible.
Went for lunch today - shared two things. First, a "sandwich poulet" on Poilane bread. This was a an overcooked chicken breast sandiwch with about the worst onion confit I've ever eaten (the bread was good, though). Second, a "salade tartine" with butter lettuce, corn, garbanzo beans, tomato, cucumber, and pumpkin seeds. It sounds like an appealing combination the but the salad was overdressed and soggy by the time we got it.
The people behind tartine appear to have put a reasonable amount of money behind the place, and the fact that they are willing to ship their bread from Paris suggests they care a little bit. However, in all other respects this place is a loser.
