My wife and I ate at the Tandoori Grill on Middlesex St in Lowell tonight. The food was quite good.
I was a little nervous because there was only one other couple in the restaurant when we arrived, and nobody else came in until after they had left and we were leaving, so very slow on a friday night.
The waitress brought out some crackers and sauces. One was an onion chutney I believe, there was a sweet and sour type sauce and there was a green one (no clue what it was). The sweet and sour and the green one were pretty good. I've had better onion chutneys.
We ordered the keema samosas as an appetizer. Every time I have had samosas, they had potatoes and peas, but these were almost completely lamb on the inside.
For entrees my wife ordered the Chicken Tikka Marsala and I had the Lamb Boti Kabob Marsala. Both were good, and the Marsala sauce was really good. There was a good amount of chicken in my wifes dish, but mine was a little light on the lamb. We also had the Garlic Naan which was really good dipped in the Marsala sauce.
The appetizers and Naan are quite inexpensive at around $3.25-$3.50 each. The entrees run $8-$12. We had a coupon, and I'm noticing right now on the back of the take-out menu is a series of coupons including a buy one, get one half off entree coupon. They also do a lunch buffet for $7.50.
Overall, I'd go there again. I'd been looking for a local indian restaurant, and haven't seen this one mentioned on the boards before. They are advertising new owners and management. If you are in the Lowell area and are in the mood for Indian, give them a shot. They are located in a little strip mall, which is kind of hard to see from the road. I believe rent a center is in the same mall. In the same mall was a cambodian restaurant, and nearby was another indian, and I believe a mediterranean (only caught site of it driving home).
