We strayed from Asenabo last night and went across the street to Tama Sushi. Valet parking was $3, as compared to Asenabo at $4.50..which always irked me. The place is lovely, minimalistic and low lighting, and the sushi bar was empty! Katsu was friendly and chatty and eventually 2 more couples joined us at the sushi bar. I was excited to see sardines (sushi and grilled) on the specials board.
We started with live scallop sashimi. Delicious. Sweet and rich with a taste of the sea. Then kampachi and shima agi sashimi. Crab handrolls--made with dungeness crab. Bigeye tuna and yellowtail sushi. And the wonderful delicious grilled santa barbara prawns topped with uni. Perfectly cooked and the uni was like a rich sauce on top. By then we were too full for sardines, but ended with tamago sushi, huge pieces of egg.
A really nice experience. Not a scene like Asenabo, and I have to admit I did miss checking out the crowd for tv stars. But excellent food and service. We're going back soon and I hope the sardines will still be there!
Oh, and we spent about $40 less than Asenabo.
