I had hoped that L2M would start this thread but hope gave way to hunger and we hit Chismosa Tacos this weekend for a preliminary bite.
Taking another one for the team!
Overall impression is entirely lukewarm (as was everything on the menu). Keeping in mind our supremely advanced state of taco readiness (Defcon 5, 24/7), we ordered a bunch of them in hard and (store bought) soft shell options and found them to be "generic late night stoner quality" @ $2.75 per.
The space was most recently the O Asian Noodle Bar in front of the O Asian Skewer Grill. The formerly Rumi totally roomy 2-tier space (out back) is now Bar 330 - as the address is 330 Lincoln Road and they are apparently paying the rent by having comely girls hand out "2 for 1 Drinks All Day" flyers in a very classy manner to everyone passing by. It's all very Coney Island at that stretch of Lincoln Mall and by that I mean circus freakish...
The servers are friendly if a bit dazed and confused. We were there mid-day and I assume things don't really get going until mid-night. We found one lone grill guy mixing tiny portions of filling "to order" on a plancha grill. Everything is in plain sight and looked clean (which can be a BIG drawback flavorwise in tacos if you ask me). The fillings on my chicken and pork tacos were sort of stiff and grill-tasting bits of protein rather than a delicious slow-cooked pork roast or a good Pastor. No grease, no gravy. Workmanlike. To use a phrase I often read here on the board and do not use:
If you are out late night or at the Convention Center and want a taco fix that's more filling than fabulous... stop by before they close and then come up with some other Club Kid Fixin's concept spot.
Speaking of concepts, we walked into SwissMaker soft pretzel stand at 410 Lincoln Road to see the "Liverwurst Sandwiches on Soft Pretzel Bar" installation.
Move over Starbucks! Soft pretzels with liverwurst are apparently the new black. (Yes I like liverwurst, who doesn't like liverwurst?!)
Huge space, lots of employees and everything you care to eat is served on big blobby pretzels... There are also freshly dipped fruit chunks in Swiss chocolate which begged our return next week. I swear I saw Arthur Agatston in there wearing a false nose and a rakish sk8r hat for cover.
Anyone tried Swissmaker yet? Ya gotta love a pretzel!
