While wondering through Garden of Eden I picked up a couple of packages of pickled ginger for use with sushi. I was shocked to notice that both brands they sold contained aspartame as a sweetener. Is pickled ginger usually sweetened or is this an unusuall coincidence that both brands contained this? If so why not use sugar? Also as a side note is there any non-superficial difference between the kind that is pinkish on the edges or the kind that is pale goldish in hue?
