Sushi Gen - Prospect Heights

I had dinner Saturday night at Sushi Gen a new sushi restaurant that opened 7 weeks ago in Prospect Heights. The food was great. We tried two appetizers - kinpira gobo (burdock root and carrot sauteed in sesame oil) and nagu shigi yaki (grilled eggplant with dark miso paste). Both were excellent although the portion size on the burdock root and carrot dish was a bit skimpy. We then ate the dragon roll (broiled eel roll topped with avocado)which was styled on the plate in the shape of a dragon and hamachi roll (mango, avocado and yellowtail roll). Sushi Gen is a great addition to the neighborhood. Friendly owner and staff and a stylish renovation. Sushi Gen 659 Washington Avenue (corner of Washington Avenue and St. Marks). Open Tuesday - Saturday for lunch and dinner. Sunday dinner only beginning at 5:30pm. Currently BYOB. All credit cards accepted.
