It's on the board a lot, usually positive. Citysearch (for whatever that's worth) rates it best of. Does the restaurant pay for that?
I went for my first time for lunch this week. I really like the "Little Tokyo Shopping Center." and always hope that something in it will be great. So, for a couple of years, I had looked into the windows of Sushi Go andI was hoepful.
After arriving and being seated, I had high hopes. I sat at the bar, which I had been told was unfinished Hinoki (very traditional) but turned out to be varnished pine. A minor dissapointment. There was light Jazz playing which reminded me of the atmosphere in several restaurants in Japan.
Not knowing the chef, I decided to order. My first course of mackarel sushi was very good and I had hope. Unfortunately, it went downhill. Next was bonito, but it was cut sloppily and way too large. Hardly one piece, one bite. Following was tuna sashimi, but it was a bit tough and sinewy, and the flavor was bland and a bit fishy. While waiting for my next order, I watched the chef stuff too much rice into a roll, and not be able to roll it and have to start over (twice.) Not encouraging. A couple more orders followed, salmon (fine,) a sea eal special (good.)
I wanted to like the place. I am always hoping to find a good affordable Japanese restaurant in LA. (I have given up on Italian already.) But, this isn't it. It's fine. It's moderately priced. It's an OK but not great room. It's decent fish, but not skillfully or creatively prepared.
