we've always liked Supper on 2nd St right off A - wonderful atmosphere, great staff, amazing wine list. But our dinner last night was pretty disappointing. and I've had a sense on my last few visits that the kitchen is slipping. has anyone else been lately, any thoughts to confirm or dissuade?...
couple notes from last night -
- Ricotta Bruchetta special - 3 very small pieces of bread schmeared with tasty Ricotta with one black olive on each piece. over priced - disappointing.
- Another special, beef short ribs - waiter described as having been cooked slow and long, meat was not very flavor full and unbelievably tough, and it was 60% fat (I usually love the fat in short ribs but it was also very tough/chewy, not soft/rendered)
- A dish I've gotten many times - the Tuesday special, chicken breast stuffed with fontina and proscuitto had a funny, not very fresh, taste to it, like it was made days prior.
- The hit of the night, also a special, Fennel Parmesan, luscious and delicious - more like a fennel gratin (our waiter mentioned it was the new favorite dish, so it's always on their specials list). also the asparagus parm was pretty amazing and a generous portion.
not giving up yet, this place has been very good to us in the past, and we didn't have any pasta dishes last night so there's still hope.
