Maurie and Flaurie Berman, founders and still owners of Superdawg, just appeared on Chicago Tonight. For anyone who doesn't know what Superdawg is: It is a drive-in (yes, they have car-hops) at Milwaukee & Devon that appears on many "best hot dog" lists.
Anyway, they answered a question that has poped up on this board before: The origin of the Superdawg hot dogs. I have seen several theories, including Klements from Milwakee. However according to Maurie, Superdawg originally used Vienna. Now they use their own recipe made by a sausage maker in NORTH DAKOTA!
Bob Sirott tried, unsucessfully, to get them to name their favorite hot dog in Chicago, other than Superdawg. All they would say is they are always checking out others, looking for ways to improve their product.
Now I've got a craving for a Whoopskidawg w/ extra green tomatoes! Hmmm! :-)
