Successor to Kura Sushi?..SEEKING quality, reasonable $ Japanese rest.

I was saddened by the demise of Kura Sushi on 4th Street in the EV.

It may not have been 5-star, but the chef was Japanese, the food was tasty, the prices reasonable, the service good and the atmosphere relaxed (dug their jazz music). A great neighborhood restaurant and a go to place for me and my lady in Manhattan.

Now that it has succumbed what are good quality, reasonable Japanese places that anyone might recommend?

I have tried many EV places and not like them much, or found them overpriced. Soba-ya for example is very good but very pricey and not a place to go unless you are not very hungry or you want to drop some cash. Its definitely a nice place but not a 'go to'.

Any gems in Manhattan or anywhere else in the 5 boroughs?
