Golden Star Chinese Restaurant, 150 W. Whittier Blvd. (near Euclid) is a terrific old-style place that took me back to the 60's with its menu dominated by dishes such as egg foo young, chow mein, chop suey, etc. Working in the neighborhood, I've had the chance to enjoy their four different lunch specials (priced at only $4.45-$4.95!). I especially like the pork chow mein/egg foo young/fried rice/tea & cookies combo with delicious and generous portions----the chow mein loaded with about equal parts bean sprouts and thin noodles, water chestnuts, mushrooms onions, etc. Egg rolls and soup cost extra but I highly recommend the egg rolls ($3.95 for 2, but a single serving can be ordered for 1/2 price) because they are tasty, huge (cut into 3 sections) and have a thick crust. Could this be New York-style egg rolls? The restaurant looks like an old house and sits by itself with ample parking. The friendly lady owner/server told me that they have been in business for over 30 years (so they must be doing something right). See my pics that show two different lunch combo's and an egg roll.
