I am posting this because I was so disappointed with the food there this time round and had to write this up. I must mention that I am originally from Singapore so I do know what the taste is like back home. Furthermore, authenticity is key for my restaurant hunts.
I am in Los Angeles now but when i do go up to the bay area I visit the straits at least once. This time round I thought the atmosphere had not changed, but the food has. I order a chicken curry dish and my friend ordered the nasi goreng. For appetizer we also ordered the Mutarbak.
The chicken curry was too sweet and not spicy and somthing was just missing. Here is the kicker!!! The Nasi Goreng was not Nasi Goreng, it tasted jst like Chinese Fried Rice that you can buy off Clemente St. This is where I called the wait staff and explained that this is not Nasi Goreng. He was kind enough to let us order another dish. So we ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice( I am of Hainanese ancestry). The rice was good but the chicken was too dry and the sauces were wrong.
The Mutarbak was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. Matter of fact, I wouldn't go there again. The Americanization of this place has definitely affected it to the point where the food doesn't even taste like what it should.
