Stimorol sighting!

A while back there was a thread about the disappearence from Montreal stores of Stimorol. It seems the addictive Danish chewing gum is no longer distributed in North American or the U.K. So you can imagine my surprise the other day when I was at the checkout counter at Gourmet Laurier (1042 Laurier West, 514 274-5601, www.gourmetlaurier.com) and spied a pile of the familiar packs. In response to my questions, the clerk called over the store owner, who confirmed what the participants in the earlier thread had said, confessed to being a fellow Stimorol addict and explained that, after years of longing for a Stimorol hit, he had decided to take matters into his own hand. So he contacted the firm in Denmark and is now directly importing quantities sufficient for sale in his store. As far as he knows, he's the only bricks and mortar retail outlet in North America that offers the stuff. I asked if I could buy an entire box; he said yes but that the boxes were big, like 200 packs. That seemed a bit excessive, even for a confirmed Stimorol hound, so I settled for the dozen packs on display. At C$1.65 (plus sales tax) for a small pack, it may not be cheap but that's the price of addiction. Out-of-towners will be happy to know that the shop takes mail orders; I didn't ask specifically about Stimorol but you can. Happy chewing!
