Last weekend we ate at J & G expecting good food and wow what a let
down. The atmosphere was nice and we had a great table with great service, but the food
compared to the price, was a serious problem. We paid $5 more for a
steak at J & G than we paid at the Source and the difference in quality and preparation was remarkable.
At $50 or so for the steak entree, we expected an exceptional dish, but the steak was underdone and not of exceptional quality. The house sauce had a bottled quality. Compared to the steak at the Source, which was amazing in all respects, J & G was not worth the money. The lobster was ok but the basil butter, that took on the same color as
lobster guts was somewhat unappealing. The corn salad thing was
clumsily sprinkled onto the lobster, making it necessary to pick it
out of the way to get to the meat. I would give a review of my
appetizers, but I can't even remember what we had!
I think what's most disappointing is that the Washingtonian Magazine
actually rated this place 4th on their 100 best restaurants list. I
guess I'm not that surprised, the Washingtonian can be seriously wrong
when it comes to restaurant reviews. But seriously? 4th? Not by a
