Sripraphai -- perhaps the best, but only half great

Ok, I'm probably going to be banished from these boards for writing this -- but in my experience only half of the menu items at Sripraphai are great.

Saturday his was my third visit. Each of the three times, I have ordered 2-5 items. Every single time half of the grub has been delicious and 1/2 has been very near close to crappy. Sure, it's mostly been the so-called "gringo thai" items that have tasted lousy. Pad Thai, Satay, etc. I don't know why it's acceptable to chowhounds for these items would taste bad -- or even why they would be considered gringo items. I've seen Thai people eating Pad Thai and satay a lot! If you went to a burger joint and got a horrible burger, would the place get the high ratings this place gets here? I ate amazing thai in Sydney almost every night for 2 weeks and I never tasted a bad Satay.

ANYWAY

It wasn't the sauteed catfish, which had a completely delicious sauce -- even if the bones threw off my gringo sensibilities (there, I admitted it) . It wasn't the Panang curry, which was quite tasty, though VERY GREASY.

The icing on the tombstone was the CRISPY PORK. I don't know HOW OLD this junk was -- or how many times it had been fried (my guess is 5). But part of me was thinking, in a Homer Simpson voice: FRIIEEEDDD PPPPOOORRKKKK HMMMAUGHGHGHGHGH!

So I ate some -- although not very much at all. All I can say is -- I regretted it.
