I decided to try out SPQR for lunch on Sun 1/20/13 after my Pier 39 walk. I walked there & it's 2.7 miles away. I thought it sounded close, but it's Not when you're walking.
It's open on weekends for lunch. That's cool. Tablehopper said it was a good place for solo dining so I tried it.
Got there after 1pm & not many people were there because of the 49ers game I guess. They have bar seating or table. Lady didn't offer me the bar so I just sat in with a table - not my fav.
Started with a FREE buttermilk biscuit that came with some soft butter & persimmon jam. It was really good, wish I could have gotten another one.
I did the 3-course Pasta Tasting menu $32pp. They called it Assaggio Di Primi. It's on the 7x7 2013 Big Eats list.
chestnut agnolotti, sartori fontina fonduta, winter squash & sage brown butter - 4 tiny chesnut pasta & cheese, squash - tasted ok, not that great.
fusilli di grano arso, spicy white veal "bolognese" & bloomsdale spinach - big bowl of corkscrew pasta, meat, some spinach. Way too salty, I did eat it all though. Blach.
Muscovy duck & mushroom lasagna, nasturtium pesto & duck heart sauce - tiny slice of lasagna with a few mushrooms on top. This was good, wish it was a bigger portion, but was very full from the 2nd dish.
No room for dessert.
