Soom Soom

While I tend to post on new establishments or on places that are new to me, I realized that I have been remiss in not commenting upon the kosher restaurant that I frequent the most – Soom Soom on Lex. and 55th. If you are looking for a falafel joint in NY you cannot do better than Soom Soom. The falafel balls themselves are fresh, non-greasy, and flavorful. They offer a wide range of salad topping that you can add to your heart’s content – items such as quinoa, artichoke, stuffed grape leaves, zucchini, sweet potato, grilled eggplant and beets – in addition to more common offerings. Sauces include amba, Turkish salad, green sauce and schug. They have a few different sandwiches, including a tasty green omelet. It is clean and efficient. Not much in the way of seating. I am happy to report that it attracts a varied lunch crowd. I’ve never been to the 72nd street location. Writing this has given me a falafel craving.
