Sonora Cafe

I searched the posts before we went tonight and was worried about the negative posts in the archives. Much to my delight, we had a very nice meal there.

Really liked the atmosphere, it wasn't noisy at all. Kids must like this place too because at two different tables there were pre-teens with their parents enjoying a birthday dinner.

My husband and I split the Trio of Quesadillas (Leek-goat cheese, lobster crème fraîche & a chef’s selection - which I can't remember what it was but it was good, with mango & papaya-ginger salsa) to start and I had Chile-Charred Ahi Tuna with a ginger-tomato salsa, jalapeño mashed potatoes, and a shiitake mushroom salad tossed in a lime vinaigrette. Both courses were tasty, presentation was nice and the portions satisfying without being too big or too small. We were with four other people and everyone loved what they had. The service was very good and friendly with the perfect amount of attention paid to our needs.

My only complaint is the dessert menu was pretty boring, but I'd rather have more food-food than dessert any day (husband is the sweet freak in the family).

I don't mind being the in the minority here on liking this place, but I really did. It doesn't come cheap though, the appetizers run from $8.50-$13 and the mains from $17.50-$29. Desserts are $7.

Yes this place is owned by the El Cholo folks but is entirely different.
