Thanks for all the replies on smoked salmon. I'll be looking into them. For me, when I'm dieting (revising eating patterns), smoked salmon stops my cravings. It keeps a while and is nice to top a salad.
Anyway, reading a thread about smoked oysters and champagne, I've got a craving.
I loved smoked oysters and clams until I was 11. Had a bad can. Really was an almost indelible impression. I finally think I'm over it, but haven't even looked at smoked shellfish in all this time and have no clue where to start.
So, first of all, is there anyplace that has fresh smoked oysters ... Hog Island ... Swan Oyster Depot?
If not, any good canned versions that I can buy locally? I'm probably going to check out Trader Joe's smoked salmon, so if they carry a good brand it would be nice to know. Also will be up in Sonoma this week and wonder if there is anything worth purchasing at Sonoma Market.
Would other smoked shellfish be good with champagne? I know that Creekside in HMB has smoked mussels.
Yeah, this isn't diet oriented, but a glass of champagne and some less healthy seafood is ok for my parameters.
Any restaurants serve it?
