I moved to SLO (San Luis Obispo) about 7 months ago and am not in a situation to be eating out a lot, but would like to make the few times I do count. I haven't run into too much out here as of yet that is too spectacular. I've had a couple of good lunches, but dinners have been disappointing. I tried Guiseppe's in Pismo and was extremely let down. They don't even salt their pasta water there and the fried squash blossoms were completely unappealing - and I almost never find something that's been deep fried unappealing! I cooked in a fantastic restaurant in Cincinnati for a while, so my standards are high, but there's got to be something around here that lives up.
I've heard of a place called Mattie's between SLO and Santa Barbara, and would like to know if that is worth a trip.
Any other tips are welcome - especially on good Chinese and Thai food nearby, and if there's any Korean or Vietnamese arount.
