A good ol' piece of Americana which landed in Singapore via Hong Kong. I'd been coming to eat at Dan Ryan's in Tanglin for a good part of the past 2 decades, and it's still doing roaring business - dishing out clam chowders and BBQ pork ribs to a new generation of Singaporeans today.
- New England clam chowder - thick and rich, with little packets of oyster crackers to crush and sprinkle into the soup.
- what else but the BBQ pork-ribs - sweet-sticky sauce covering fall-off-the-bone tender pork ribs. Not exactly the best in town (Hard Rock Cafe and Tony Roma's, both up the street, served better) but consistently good.
- Meatballs and spaghetti: main street fare in the US, but somewhat of a rarity in Singapore. Done very welll here.
Not exactly a gourmet meal, just the reassurance of getting some "comfort food" at a familiar old hangout.
