This mega-buffet 450-seater Malay eatery by Singapore-born TV-celebrity Chef Wan has been perpetually full house every day ever since it opened last Dec 2012.
It "seemed" quieter this evening, so me and my SO decided to pop in at a whim. Oh wow, it was pretty raucuous inside, with at least 3 birthday parties going on simultaneously at different parts of the cavernous eatery.
The buffet tables seemed endless at first glance. I picked the counters nearest to our table to start. Some choices:
- Opor ayam
- Ikan belado
- Mutton curry
- grilled satays
- barbecued stingray
- curried flower crabs
These were like 10% of the dishes on offer!
There was a carvery with roast lamb, beef and chicken. A station where "assam laksa" was doled out fresh, and another station where fresh spring rolls were prepared a la minute.
The salad bar had various Western as well as spicy Malay options.
The buffet counter had more Malay cakes and dessert options than one can hope to savour at one seating. But my fave there was the Belgian waffles, served with ice-cream and maple syrup - very "un-Malay" actually.
Quality-wise? Pretty average, not what I'd expected from a celebrity-chef. It was nice to finally be able to see what the fuss was all about. Would I return? Not anytime soon, I'm afraid.
