Sin Pagar Ahora @ La Copa Loca Artisan Gelateria

Today's the grand opening for La Copa Loca in the Mission. They're not accepting any money today, only giving away free samples, little scoops of as many flavors as you like.

I tried ten of the 23 flavors in the case. In general, I found the fruit flavors much more intense than the other selections. Also, the flavors toward the righthand side of the case were a bit softer, perhaps the temperature is a little higher on that side. The gelato is scoopable and harder than my personal preferance, yet the lightness and lower butterfat make it refreshing. Also, these are not overly sweet, a big plus in my book.

My overall favorite was Maracuja (passionfruit), followed by Blood Orange. The Mango was also nice with a pulpier texture. Hazelnut and Stracciatella (full cream with chocolate chips) were nice, if somewhat delicately flavored. I actively disliked the Vanilla and the Chocolate, which left a chalky and unpleasant aftertaste. Also sampled were Coffee, Tiramisu, and Cream Custard.

Saturday and Sunday hours are 11am to 5pm. They haven't figured out week day times yet. Free samples continue to the end of the today, and they were considering doing it tomorrow.
