As a kid in Orange County, the Crab Cooker, on Balboa Peninsula was the favorite fish /seafood restaurant. For those unfamiliar it is an unprententous paper plate draft beer style beach restaurant, which always the most amazing FRESH fish. It has been there for 30+ years, and way before grilling became hip, all the fish was cooked over a wood barbeque grill, with a light brush of butter, paprika garlic salt and fresh lemon.
Minimal selection of decent sides, and clam chowder, thats all.
So now I live in Santa Monica and have not been able to find anything to replace this. I have tried Reel Inn, yuck, the fish is NOT very fresh and the sides are horrible. I have tried Ocean Ave. Seafood and had to wait 30 mins to be seated and another 30 minutes to get an order taken. Last night we tried La Serenata and the fish was also not so fresh, although this may have been the Sunday night curse, but still !!! I like the Lobster and the Beach House, great food but not the cozy, casual place I am looking for.
Does anyone has a favorite FRESH and well prepared seafood / fish place they like. Which does not involve driving to Malibu??? or back to Orange county!!Thanks
