I was just thinking of Engagement Chicken today, and was wondering if anyone else had recipes with stories like this behind them. Apparently some girls from Glamour magazine, and some other random women, got engaged after cooking this chicken for their boyfriends--supposedly the guys see the girls as "wife-material" after they cook it, since it's sort of a dish a 1950s wife would make for her husband? I assume most of these girls can't really cook anyway, so the guys are just surprised (but that's just my thought)!
I thought it looked tasty, and at the time was waiting for my then-boyfriend (now husband) to propose, so I thought hey, couldn't hurt! Unfortunately, I apparently had spoiled him way too often with tasty food, so he didn't think it out of the ordinary or really anything terribly special--we did get engaged a couple of years later though!
Here's the recipe: http://www.glamour.com/magazine/2006/...
How about you guys? Do you have any recipes with silly stories behind them?
