Sister and I ventured to Shuhei for lunch and our yearly holiday sushi pow-wow. We sit at a table after being greeted by Hiroshi, order a boatload of sushi, and wait. I turn around to look at the bar and I am shocked to see ONLY pre-cut fish (and a lot of it) in the cooler. Chirashi was small (dinner price), uninspired visually, flavorless, and half the selections were cooked or seared.....and I was ASKED whether I wanted cooked or raw, and responded with raw. My sister's rolls were so bland, especially after the waiter went on about the NEW menu and rolls. The only thing we enjoyed was the ikura. Yeah, great, you have a good source for salmon roe, congrats.
Shuhei used to the be the definitive top-shelf sushi experience, not anymore. The food has been slipping, the service is amatuerish and pushy....and I am heartbroken. Back to Pacific-East when I visit for this hound. The last time I ate there I sat at the bar and had piece after piece of delicious special cut sushi.
Has anybody been to Shinano lately?
