There have been some past discussions of this Hell's Kitchen sushi place (which is in, believe it or not, the Washington-Jefferson Hotel), but I figured that I would belatedly chime in here and add my 2 cents.
I live and work in the neighborhood, so that may color my thinking a bit, but I completely love Shimizu. I find the selection of fish excellent and the quality top-notch. Add to that a casual neighborhoody quality and an extremely helpful and accessible sushi chef (and owner), and you've got a winning combination. I have only had omakase and only sitting at the bar, so I can't comment on table service. Cost-wise, I have found that a full omakase with a couple of Sapporos can range from about $65-110 per person, exclusive of tip. Most of the time it has been clustered around the lower end of that range.
In any event, it's my new favorite sushi spot and I (selfishly) hope that others will support it so that Shimizu is there for me to enjoy for years to come.
