Shaved Ice?

While I really like the wonderful homemade fruit syrups at Raspados Zacateca in East LA (422 N. Ford Blvd.), the crushed ice they use for their raspados tends to be fairly course. Yesterday, I was craving a powder fine shaved iced like I've had at Lappert's in Hawaii (where they produce their shaved ice by rotating a large round block of ice over a stationary steel blade). Remembering that there's a Lappert's in Hermosa Beach (at 39 Pier Ave.), I braved the traffic and the parking and took the Missus on down to the Hermosa Beach pier. What a disappointment! Not only do they use regular coarsely crushed ice, but all of the amazing tropical flavored syrups found in the Hawaii Lappert's (mango, passion fruit, guava, etc.) were absent. In short, the Hermosa Beach Lappert's makes regular old fashion snow cones, which, while good, don't come close to the amazing shaved ice confections Lappert's offers in the islands.

So, my question is, is there any place in the LA area that makes a true shaved ice with great syrups? Surely this cannot be the best shaved ice socal has to offer!
