Shanti / Taste of India near Symphony

Someone was asking about this place not too long ago and I went this past Friday evening for a pre-symphony meal. We arrived at 6:30pm which was just about the right cut off to get a table...guess this is what happens when this is one of the only resto near Symphony. Some poor souls decided they would wait for the next available table, waited 20min and surprise, surprise, did not have enough time to order and eat...and proceeded to tell off the staff. So, if you plan to stop in pre-symphony, make sure to be there at least 1.5 hours ahead of time. The restaurant is understaffed for its size...

Ok, now on to the food...hhhmmm...just OK, neither bad nor good. I had the coconut milk soup with pistachio nuts, which was exactly that, reduced coconut milk...and no pistachios. We also ordered the chhicken tikka app, which was again OK but lacked some spicing. For our main course we got an eggplant dish, a murg chicken curry and naan. It all lacked the punch of a great meal, but was acceptable. I must highlight that my views are tainted from my recent trip to Southern India, where every dish was absolutely spectacular...especially the home cooked ones. I guess this is why my fiance (Indian) avoids most Indian restos in Boston. All in all, we would only go back as a pre-symphony meal by default...we cannot bear the thought of having Pizzaria Uno.
