Sham is not a Sham, its a wonderful new Mediterranean place in Santa Monica

Stopped by this brand new little restaurant at 716 Santa Monica Blvd - its just been open a month by Jihad who is Syrian American and his wife. Great decor, tablecloths (we thought it would be plastic forks like Suni, but no).

The lunch was $6.95 and there was a choice of three dishes from the salad list, the appetizer list and the main course list. I had an appetizer Fattaier Spinach empanada like pastie that was stuffed with chopped spinach with onion and pomegranate - just loved that couldn have eaten three more; then mixed vegetables, tomatoes, onion, potatoes, eggplant, squash and green pepper baked in olive oil - really tasty. Jihad gave us a house treat of falafel with homemade dressing, really light and fluffy, crunchy too. My SO had mixed salad, black beans, garbanzos, feta, olve, chopped onion, tomatoes, cucumber with olive oil and lemon dressing plus the mousaka. I wanted to order leeks with cilantro and garlic but Jihad hadn't made it because he said no one ordered it - I hope he will put it back on the menu. Finished off the lunch with an Arabic/Turkish coffee.

The chicken shawarma looked and smelled divine, lots of garlic but I was not in a meat mood today so just gobbled up the vegetables. Good place, inexpensive, very upbeat and nice ambiance
