A newsletter from Canterbury Shaker Village announced that when it reopens May 15, the restaurant will be called Greenwoods. It will serve lunch only, and they have restored the communal table format that characterized the Shaker restaurant when it was still in the original Creamery building. Sittings will be at 11:30, 12:30, and 1:30. This comes as good news to me since I enjoyed the communal format. It fostered conversation with fellow diners and made the experience of the Shaker way of life a little bit more authentic. I am not sure if the chef and manager have changed - the names looked familiar but I haven't been there since late 2007. The website is www.greenwoodsatcsv.com, but it doesn;t seem to be up and running yet. The newsletter listed a menu that included a salad or soup do jour appetizer, several entrees including chicken pot pie, mac&cheese, and fish baked with hard-cooked egg and potatoes, plus a desset du jour. There is an option of a la carte, or full meal for $18. I enjoyed the food there on my previous visits but hear that more recently, they had declined in quality.
