This is the anti-Philz in terms of the original location on 24th in the Mission ... it is modern and stylish, yet inviting. Totally different ambiance ... same delicious coffee.
Recommended if near the ballpark or train station and you want a good cup of coffee or tea and what looked like fine pastries.
Great ... GREAT ... place for wireless access. There are also two terminals avalable for about $7 an hour. There are comfy black leather type couches and lots of tables.
The coffee and tea are pricy ... about $2.50 - $3 for a medium cup and a little more for a large. But it is not your Starbuck's swill and made to order. Even the iced tea was a step above. There is a choice of black or green tea. I thought my $2.50 iced green tea was excellent and worth the price.
I had been to bakeries elsewhere today or I would have bought the fine looking stollen. the other pastries looked good too.
No personable Phil here. The counter staff was pleasant but clueless. Not only did they not know who made the stollen, they had to consult a piece of paper to see what it was. I haven't seen that variety before so I'm curious to see who makes it.
There are currently two free street parking places accross the street which I suspect will soon be turned into a red zone. So parking is non-existant.
There's also a nice little pocket park 1/2 block up on Berry if you want to enjoy your coffee outdoors. To get to Philz continue up a block past the train station on Fourth. It is on the corner of Fourth and Berry.
