SF Farmer's Market Find - Healthy Harvest Farms Tomato Sauce

Hadn't been to the Farmer's market in a few weeks, and it has definitely turned into fall.

Tierra farms has some delicious tomatillo-looking fruits (name escapes me). Sweeter than tomatillos, and small with a husk covering. Thinking they would be good for a sweet salsa. The proprietor said that they are from Hawaii (? I think) and used in Europe. I am already plotting a purchase of them next week.

Been feeling guilty for weeks because I have not taken appropriate advantage of the tomato season. Have not had time to make sauces, or anything else that comes from the great season.

Healthy Harvest Farms is selling several varieties of organic tomato sauces that are canned and delicious. After tasting several varieties (they have a wine tomato sauce, a green zebra tomato sauce, an heirloom tomato sauce, and an early girl) I opted for a couple jars of the early girl sauce. Simple and delicious. Going to be a perfect base for recipes or by itself.

Ingredients are simple: Early girl tomatoes, onion, celery, carrots, sea salt, pepper, basil, parsley, olive oil, vinegar.

The price is $10, $15 for the wine sauce. Definitely a chunk of my farmer's market budget, but a bargain when I think about the cost of making it myself.

Brought it home and after figuring out how to open the Ball jar (ha ha - I am a young city girl, after all), I ate it straight from the jar with a loaf of Acme ciabatta.

Perfection.
