We have a lovely time. The decor is great, we had a nice cozy booth, and the service was terrific. Went with another couple and we all really enjoyed the food and drinks.
We started with the Tamalitos Surtidos (little tamales filled with chicken in a pumpkin seed sauce and pork in a chile verde sauce)and they were very good. The corn meal was delicious, it tasted like fresh corn. Not that small either. The two were fine for the 4 of us as an appetizer, along with the chips and excellent salsa. (I'm taking the food descriptions from their menu!)
For an entree, I had the Cochinita Pibil (achiote marinated pork, slow roasted and smoked in banana leaves.) This was really tender and flavorful. I love carnitas, and this just seemed like a fresher, healthier, tastier version. The presentation was interesting also. My husband had the RóBALO (pan roasted sea bass with a mango and black bean salsa tostada, ancho chile and avocado sauce.)It was very moist inside with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside. Friends had the Carne Asada and the Chicken Mole, and felt both were outstanding.
We had the tequila marinated fruits over sorbet, and the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. I ate all the fruits off the sorbet and they were delicious.
Also, I must say that the Cadillac margarita was one of the best I have ever tasted. Sort of pricey for $10, but I'd actually consider going again to sit at the bar and have one of these.
The only negative comment we had (and it really isn't that bad) is that the portions were sort of small. And actually, they weren't small, they were perfect. It just seems unusual to eat everything on your plate at a Mexican restaurant and not feel stuffed after!
The place was packed, and the bar scene seemed happening, so maybe a restaurant has finally come to stay in the space.
